The 'SIGNIS RECEPTIS' denarius celebrates Augustus's diplomatic triumph of recovering Roman military standards captured by Parthians at Carrhae (53 BC). Though Augustus negotiated their peaceful return in 20 BC, he portrayed it as a military victory. The coin shows Mars holding the recovered standards, symbolizing Augustus as Caesar's worthy heir and Rome's honor restored. Part of his empire-wide propaganda campaign, it effectively promoted his message of renewed Roman glory after the civil wars.
